Police say a man was hospitalized Tuesday night after being stabbed with a machete where Willow Street meets the 405 Freeway, near the Stearns Park neighborhood.

Officers were notified of the stabbing around 11:22 p.m. and responded to the area.

Upon arriving, authorities located the man that had been stabbed and transported him to a local hospital, according to police, who said he is expected to survive.

Investigators later learned the man was in the the area when the suspect approached him and suddenly stabbed him, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Authorities are still investigating a motive for the stabbing, and at this time, there is no known suspect information, according to the LBPD.
