A pedestrian is in grave condition and had to undergo surgery after he was hit by a car Tuesday evening near Cal State Long Beach, police said Wednesday.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers dispatched to the area of Bellflower and Atherton at about 6:05PM regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian accident, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics transported the male pedestrian to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in grave condition.

Collision investigations detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation due to the condition of the pedestrian, Arrona said.
