Long Beach police were investigating a shooting Monday night that left one man injured.

According to police, officers arrived at the 300 block of East 14th Street following reports about a shooting at about 11:15 p.m.

At the scene, officers located bullet casings and more evidence of a shooting, police said. Later that night, officers reported to a local hospital for a call about a shooting victim.

Police determined that the injured man at the hospital was associated with the previous shooting call. The man, who sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds,  is not cooperating with the police investigation, according to the LBPD.

Police said that a witness who was with the victim at the time of the shooting said the two were waiting for a ride when an unknown assailant shot the man. It was not immediately clear if the witness and the victim were waiting for the same ride.

Police said they believe the shooting was gang related. Long Beach police define “gang-related” crime as any crime “committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with any criminal street gang.”

Police asked those with information regarding to contact the Gang Investigation Section at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips may be submitted through “LA Crime Stoppers” by calling 1-800-222-8477.
