Police say a man was hospitalized Saturday night after being shot in the Washington neighborhood in Central Long Beach.

Officers arrived at the 700 block of Chestnut Avenue around 9:41 p.m. regarding a shooting where they located a man who had been shot in the lower body, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Police said the man got into a verbal dispute with another man which escalated to the shooting.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and the man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the LBPD.

At the scene, officers located evidence, including casings and no other injuries were reported, police say. The investigation is ongoing.
