A man was shot to death near Downtown Long Beach Sunday night, authorities said Monday.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Cedar Avenue, Long Beach police Lt. Tony Lopez said.

Officers didn’t find the victim at first, but after looking around found a man dead inside a yard from a gunshot wound in his upper body, Lopez said. His name was not released pending family notification.

“We are almost certain it is not gang related,” Lopez said.

The investigation was continuing.
