A man was critically injured in a stabbing that stemmed from an apparent fight Saturday in Central Long Beach, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 10th Street and Walnut Avenue at approximately 7 p.m. after receiving a call about a fight, Long Beach police said.

At the scene, officers found a man with a life-threatening stab wound to his upper body, according to police. The victim was treated by the Long Beach Fire Department and taken to a local hospital.

Though the victim’s wounds were serious, hospital staff were able to stabilize the victim, LBPD Lt. Scott Jenson said.

Details weren’t immediately available on any possible suspects or what sparked the fight.
