A man transported himself to a local hospital Tuesday night after being shot during an argument in a West Long Beach parking lot, police said.

Police responded around 8:15 p.m. to the 2500 block of Santa Fe Avenue after reports of a shooting, Long Beach police spokesperson Brandon Fahey said. When officers got to the area, they located evidence that a shooting had occurred, including bullet casings and homes that had been struck by gunfire, but no victim, Fahey said. Shortly after, police found the man who had been shot at a local hospital.

When police arrived, the victim said he said he was sitting in his car in a parking lot on the 2500 block of Santa Fe Avenue when he began arguing with a man outside. When the argument escalated, the man outside pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the upper body, police said. The victim then transported himself to a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, Fahey said. No other injuries were reported.

It is not clear what sparked the argument, however an investigation is underway to discover a motive and gather suspect information, Fahey said.
