A man was shot in Central Long Beach Tuesday afternoon, and police said he is expected to survive.
Officers responded to the incident at 2:15 p.m. at 17th Street and Gundry Avenue and found the man “suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper torso,” police said in a statement.
The victim, police say, is a 73-year-old man from Long Beach. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the man to a local hospital, police said.
Police say they believe the victim was not the intended target of the shooting and are searching for possibly two male suspects who were last seen fleeing westbound on 17th Street on foot. Authorities say there is no known motive and the investigation is ongoing.
A man who lives near the crime said one of the bullets from the shooting flattened the tire of his car, but he did not hear or see anything. The man declined to give his name.
