A 23-year-old man was shot and killed Friday night after getting in a confrontation with a man he knew, police said.

Long Beach police were called to an apartment complex on the 900 block of Via Wanda at about 9:45 Friday night, according to a news release. When they got there, they found a man with gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body and immediately began performing life-saving measures, the release said.

Paramedics took him to a local hospital where he died. He has been identified as Jerrimiyah Davis, 23, from Long Beach.

Detectives believe the suspect, later identified as Paul Booth, 58, of Long Beach, confronted the victim in a common area of the complex, which resulted in the shooting.

“Witnesses described the suspect as a local resident who was last seen fleeing the area in a wheelchair,” the release said. The victim and the suspect knew each other, according to police.

Police found Booth blocks away on Saturday near 52nd Street and Orange Avenue. He was booked in jail on suspicion of murder and being an ex-felon in possession of live ammunition, police said. He is being held on a $2 million bail.

Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office early next week.
