A 46-year-old man was killed in North Long Beach shooting Friday night, and police are looking for the suspect.

Long Beach resident Ryan Pearson died from his injuries at a local hospital following a shooting sometime after 9 p.m. in the 6100 block of Long Beach Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police say Pearson was among a group of people in the city’s Coolidge Triangle neighborhood when they were approached by a male suspect. The group and the suspect began arguing, and eventually, the suspect shot at them, authorities said.

Officers who responded to the scene found Pearson suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body and rendered aid to him until Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported him to a hospital, where he died.

An arrest has not been made, and no other injuries were reported.

Police are now looking for the gunman and the individuals involved in the dispute with him prior to the shooting, as they all fled the scene before officers arrived, the LBPD said in a press release Saturday morning.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation and no suspect information was available, police said.

As a result of the shooting, North Long Beach has experienced five murders involving a firearm in 2022 and continues to be one of the regions most impacted areas by gun violence in the city, which police attribute to it being a densely populated area. Fifteen murders have now been reported in Long Beach this year.
