Long Beach police are investigating a shooting after a man said he was struck by gunfire while walking in West Long Beach on Tuesday morning.

Officers responded at around 5:53 a.m. to a local hospital after the man arrived with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

At the hospital, the man told police that he was walking near the area of Delta Avenue and Wardlow Road when he heard gunshots, according to the LBPD. The man then realized he had been struck by the gunfire and transported himself to a local hospital, police said

Officers responded to the area where the wounded man said he had been shot, but they were unable to locate a crime scene, authorities said.

At this time, no suspect information is available and the motive for the shooting is unknown, according to police.
