A man was hospitalized early Sunday with non-life-threatening wounds after being stabbed near the Long Beach Exchange shopping center, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police are still searching for suspects.

In a release, the department said that officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of East Carson Street at 1:53 a.m. where they found a man who had been stabbed in the upper body. Fire Department personnel provided medical aid before transferring the man to a local hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined that the man was involved in a verbal dispute with two other men and a woman before being stabbed. One of the suspects also fired a gun into the air during the altercation, and the three suspects fled the scene on foot before officers arrived, according to the department.

The department said the investigation is ongoing.
