A man was taken to the hospital after being stabbed near a shopping plaza in Bixby Knolls Saturday afternoon.

At about 4:30 p.m., officers were sent to the 4500 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding a call about a stabbing, police said.

At the scene, police found a man with stab wounds to his upper body. The man was found outside a CVS store close to the side of the road, police spokesman Brandon Fahey said.

Long Beach fire also responded to the scene and transported the man to a local hospital, according to fire spokesman Brian Fisk.

The status of the victim is unknown at this time, Fahey said. Officers are still in the early stages of their investigation, and are conducting interviews with witnesses, police said.

No information on a motive for the stabbing or details on a suspect were immediately available.
