Long Beach police are investigating a shooting that left a 27-year-old man wounded Sunday night on Pacific Coast Highway in the city’s Washington neighborhood, officials said.

A local hospital called police at about 8:45 p.m. with a report of a shooting victim. When officers got there, they talked to the victim, who had non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his lower body, police spokesman Brandon Fahey said.

“The victim stated he was walking near the area of PCH and Locust Avenue when a silver vehicle pulled up alongside him,” Fahey said.

A man in the vehicle shot him and fled the area, he said. Officers were not able to find evidence of a shooting in that location and no one else reported injuries.

Police said that the motive is still under investigation, but detectives believe the shooting was gang related.

They has that anyone with information on the incident to call investigators at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org
