Long Beach police said they are investigating a shooting early Saturday morning that left a man with gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body.

The man, who transported himself to the hospital, is expected to survive, police said.

Police responded to the call at 12:15 a.m. in the area of 17th street and Temple Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they met with a relative of the wounded man, who told officers that the man drove himself to the hospital, police said. A few hours later, the hospital notified police about the shooting victim and officers went to meet with the man.

The man told police he was shot in the 1500 block of Henderson Avenue, about 2 miles away from where officers were originally dispatched. He refused to cooperate with the investigation, according to the LBPD.

Police said they could not find a crime scene at either location. No other injuries were reported.
