Two F/A 18 U.S. Marine Corp aircraft may arrive at the Long Beach Airport on Friday morning and stay until Sunday, city officials announced Thursday.

The aircraft are set to arrive at about 10:30AM on Friday, April 1 and will depart on Sunday, April 3 at about 2:30PM, a release stated. Times are considered tentative and subject to change.

The aircraft operations will be restricted to daytime hours and those living near the airport will notice louder noise levels, officials stated.

According to the release, “The aircraft will utilize noise abatement procedures when operating in the vicinity of Long Beach, including modified arrival and departure flight profiles and minimum use of afterburners.” 

The twin-engine F/A 18 Marine jet is used for fighter escort, reconnaissance, air control, enemy air defense suppression and close air control, according to the official USMC website. Aircraft come equipped with external and internal weapon stations that are able to deliver cluster and laser guided-bombs, various missiles, among other things.
