A beach closure advisory for Mother’s Beach and Marine Stadium was issued due to a spill from a pressurized sewage line Wednesday morning.  All persons are urged not to swim in the areas until bacteria levels are safe and the advisory has been lifted.

The spill occurred as the Long Beach Water Department was clearing the line of roots.  Approximately 5,400 gallons of sewage discharged from the pipe and entered Marine Stadium. The sewage discharge has been contained, and the area around the spill has been cleaned and sanitized.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Environmental Health Water Program has posted the affected areas with closure signs.  The Health Department will be conducting daily bacterial testing of these areas until bacteria levels are within State standards.  Decisions on the duration of the beach closures and postings will be based on the water test results.
