6:00am | “Never take an elevator in city hall.” – Harvey Milk
Creating change in any city is never easy. The path is a step-by-step process as the late legendary gay activist San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk implies in one of my favorite quotes noted above.
In our May print edition of the Long Beach Post we take a look at the decades of change led by Long Beach’s LGBT community, what makes the community so special, and how the years of local LGBT activism has helped transform Long Beach into the most diverse city in the country.
As Greggory Moore points out in our cover story: In 2000, USA Today ranked Long Beach as the most diverse city in the United States. That the city is home to one of the country’s strongest and most visible gay communities is just another feather in that cap, one that most Beachers wear with pride.
Long Beach is much gayer than you think and we are all better off because of it.
