Mayor Bob Foster today announced his appointment of attorney Susan Wise to the Long Beach Harbor Commission. A Long Beach resident of more than 30 years, Wise is a partner with the locally-based Wise Pearce Yocis & Smith firm and volunteers on the board of directors for the Children’s Clinic, YMCA of Greater Long Beach, Long Beach Bar Foundation and the Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership. Her appointment will need to be approved by the City Council before it is finalized.
“This is a great opportunity for me to merge my professional experience and problem solving skills with my commitment to the Long Beach community,” said Wise in a press release. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve.”
Wise will replace Doris Topsy-Elvord, who retired after serving five years on the Harbor Commission.
Her 34 years of professional experience ranges from commercial to civil cases, as well as time spent as a Superior Court mediator. The website of Wise’s law firm lists her as a cum laude graduate of Lawrence University, as well as a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School.
“Susan will be a great addition to the Harbor Commission,” said Mayor Foster. “Her intellect, experience and problem-solving skills will be invaluable as she participates in the decisions that will greatly impact the Port of Long Beach.”
