11:00am | Mayor Bob Foster and City Manager Pat West presented to the city council and to the public the City Manager’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2012 Tuesday, August 2nd, which projects a $20.3 million general deficit fund. Citing the disastrous effect the of the economic crash three years ago, and the still tenuous recovery happening nationally, Mayor Foster called for reductions in funding for all city departments.
The budget also calls for the total elimination of 59 city positions, and cutting 200 positions that are currently unfilled. In addition, libraries, police, and firefighters will receive further budget cuts.
The Mayor has suggested reforms to the pension system, and has reached a tentative deal with the Police Officer’s Association.
The new fiscal year starts October 1st, and the City Council must approve the budget by September 15th.
