Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster will deliver the 2009 State of the City address on January 13, 2009 at the Carpenter Center on the campus of Cal State Long Beach, inviting all Long Beach residents to attend the free event for the first time in its history. The address will begin at 6:00pm.
Previously, tickets were sold to attendees and proceeds benefited the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce as well as various charities. Mayor Foster made a point during his 2006 campaign that the address should be made available to the public, free of charge.
“Public engagement is critical to a healthy and vibrant government and maybe even more so during these challenging times,” said Mayor Foster in a release. “The State of the City is an important part of the civic process and I’m delighted to give this speech at Cal State Long Beach, the flagship of a public education system founded on accessibility.”
Tickets can be reserved by calling 562.570.5089, or through StateOfLB.com. Tickets should be reserved as soon as possible due to the Carpenter Center’s limited number of seats. The address will also be made available on LBTV Channel 8 and the State of the City website.
