After about fifteen months of extensive fundraising, grantwriting and other efforts, the Memorial Medical Center Foundation today announced that they have achieved their goal of raising $24 million to assist construction efforts on a new 124,000-square-foot inpatient facility at Miller Children’s Hospital. The expansion is expected to be completed later this year, and opened a few months following.
“We are extremely grateful for the community’s philanthropic support of our Building for Children campaign,” reads a statement from Diana Hendel, CEO of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children’s Hospital. “The generosity of the community will enable us to continue caring for seriously ill and injured children, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.”
The hospital foundation relied on several grants and donations (even small ones like this) to reach their goal and assure that construction of the new building would become a reality. Several new state-of-the-art facilities will be housed inside the new development, which will be dedicated to serving children and also include new room for The Children’s Clinic and Children’s Dental Health Clinic.
According to capital campaign co-chair Mary Alice Braly, more than 1,700 donors contributed to the $24 million goal. Voter-approved bonds through Propositions 3 and 61 are also contributing to the Miller Children’s Hospital expansion.
