As the school year wraps up and we celebrate the achievements of graduating students of all levels, some undoubtedly stand out above the rest. The Military Officers Association of America, Long Beach Chapter recognized six such local students on May 21, with its annual JROTC Dinner and Awards Ceremony.
The Cadets exhibited outstanding grades, and all will pursue ambitions futures – a medical degree, a psychology degree, a criminal justice degree and others – after graduating from their respective high schools.
The students honored are listed below:
Cadet Cdr. Erika Paz (Cabrillo High School)
Cadet Col. Vincente Totosme (Jordan High School)
Cadet Lt. Hortencia Marquez (Lakewood High School)
Cadet Maj. Richard Gonzalez (Millikan High School)
Cadet LtCol. Aeron David (Poly High School)
Cadet Lt. J.G. Aurelia Valdez (Wilson High School)
“The honors accorded these young Cadets are in recognition of their stellar efforts to achieve excellence in preparation for adult lives and perhaps, military careers,” said CDR George Henning, president of the MOAA Long Beach Chapter, in a released statement.
“The JROTC is one of the nation’s leading training programs for young people interested in pursuing military careers: For many it leads to college degrees and subsequent military service. We are pleased to support such a worthwhile effort and look forward to continuing our role in assisting the military to meet its vital future needs.”
