UPDATE | A 68-year-old man who went missing from Long Beach last week died in a car crash, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Edward Ringer, who suffered from a medical condition that could cause him to become disoriented, was last seen by a caregiver at his home in the 200 block of East 69th Way on Jan. 23, according to authorities. The same day, he died in a traffic collision near Alameda Street and Elm Street in Compton, police said. Details of that crash weren’t immediately available.

Police said they were not notified of the crash at 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 24, after they’d already sent a missing person bulletin about Ringer.

1/24/2020 at 8:09 a.m. | A Silver Alert was issued this morning for a 68-year-old man who suffers from a medical condition and may become disoriented and was last seen in Long Beach.

Edward Ringer was last seen about 5:40 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of East 69th Way, Long Beach police said.

“Ringer is known to wander, has been reported missing on several prior occasions, and has previously been located at various locations in the cities of Inglewood, Los Angeles, Pomona and Signal Hill,” the LBPD said. “His possible destination is unknown.”

Ringer is black, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, gray and white pajama pants and black shoes, the CHP said.

Anyone who knows of Ringer’s whereabouts was asked to call 911.

The purpose of the Silver Alert program is to establish a quick response system designed to issue and coordinate alerts following the unexplained or suspicious disappearance of an elderly person, or a person whois developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired, according to the CHP.
