As a central piece of Peace Week (January 12-19), the city of Long Beach is accepting nominations for the 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker Award.  Nominations will be taken until Monday, Jan. 7, and the award will be handed out during Peace Week.

One award will be given to a youth nominee (under 21) and one award will be given to an adult nominee (21 or older).  Candidates should have backgrounds in community service, volunteer work or other positive influences on the community.

Peace Week and the Peacemaker Award are co-sponsored by District 6 Councilman Dee Andrews, the Human Dignity Program and the Gang Violence Prevention Task Force, to honor local individuals who have done work in the mold of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s great civil rights contributions.
