4:46pm | Firefighters used powerful hoses, chainsaws and other tools to extinguish a house fire on Alamitos Avenue this morning after the blaze began in a wall furnace and extended into the attic. The family inside escaped and there were no injuries.
The fire broke out around 7:27am this morning near Alamitos Ave and 15th Street. Nearly twenty firefighters responded to the call and found smoke coming from the rear of the home. It took them just three minutes to put out the blaze, though a significant amount of damage has left the home uninhabitable. The displaced family is being assisted by the Red Cross.
The fire department says that no working smoke alarms were in the home. A resident discovered the fire and quickly alerted everyone inside, but results could have been tragic if the fire had broken out at night and everyone inside was asleep. The department offers two free smoke detectors per household if needed, call 562.570.2519 for more information.
