More information has been revealed about the circumstances surrounding Monday’s shooting near Del Amo Ave. and Cherry Ave. that left a mother dead and her teenage son injured. The two were shot in their apartment after an apparent dometic dispute involving the mother’s ex husband, resulting in the death of the mother and leaving the son in critical condition. The suspect turned himself in a few hours later.

Just before 10PM Monday night, shots were heard near the 4800 block of Clair Del Avenue, just east of Cherry Avenue and south of Del Amo Boulevard. Upon arrival, Long Beach Police officers discovered that 41-year-old Lorena Reyes had already died and they transported her wounded teenager son to a nearby hospital.

The suspect, 36-year-old Henry Reyes, is the former husband of Lorena and stepfather to her son. He had been recently separated from her. After fleeing the scene, Henry eventually surrendered himself to the Los Angeles Police Department while in L.A. He was then released to the custody of the LBPD, where he was booked for murder and attempted murder while being held on a $1 million bail.
