After closures were issued at Mother’s Beach, Colorado Lagoon and Marine Stadium on Monday, it is now safe to swim and play at those locations, Long Beach Health Officer Helene Calvet said today in a press release. The beaches were closed after a sewage spill in the Los Cerritos Channel, which empties directly into those beaches.
According to the release:
Laboratory tests for Mother’s Beach and Colorado Lagoon received today were within State standards for the second consecutive day. The closure was ordered after an estimated 1,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the storm system from a private sewage line located approximately ź mile from the Los Cerritos Channel, which leads to Mother’s Beach, Marine Stadium and Colorado Lagoon.
No word yet on exactly how long “ź mile” is (just kidding).
