A motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon following a crash in East Long Beach, police said.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. at Willow Street and Palo Verde Avenue.

The 63-year-old driver of a 2019 Nissan Sentra was traveling eastbound on Willow Street when he failed to yield to traffic and turned left onto northbound Palo Verde Avenue, striking the motorcyclist who was traveling westbound on Willow Street on a 2021 Harley Davidson, according to the LBPD.

Officers responded to the crash site and located the motorcyclist suffering from serious injuries, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded shortly after and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital where he died, police said. His identity was not revealed as the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office works to notify his relatives.

The driver of the Nissan, who was identified by police as a Long Beach resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, police are investigating speed and distracted driving as factors in the crash.
