UPDATE | Authorities have identified the motorcyclist killed in Monday night’s crash in Long Beach as an Orange County resident. Police originally said he was from Commerce.

Arturo Zamarripa, 33, of Orange, died at the scene, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Zamarripa was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster east on 7th Street, when he struck a 2000 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 70-year-old Long Beach man trying to turn left on Newport Avenue that night.

PREVIOUSLY: Motorcyclist Killed after Colliding with Pick-Up Truck in Long Beach Monday Night

6/21/16 at 11:18AM | A 33-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he collided with a pick-up truck in Long Beach Monday night, authorities said.

Police responded to the injury traffic collision at 7th Street and Newport Avenue at 9:55PM on Monday, June 20, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Arriving officers discovered the motorcyclist—described only as a Commerce man—lying unconscious in the roadway in front of the pick-up truck—a 2000 Toyota Tacoma—being driven by a 70-year-old Long Beach man. The motorcyclist was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster.

Officers performed lifesaving medical aid on the motorcyclist before Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) paramedics determined him dead at the scene, authorities stated.

According to the preliminary investigation, the motorist was traveling west on 7th Street and attempted to turn left on Newport Avenue when he collided with the motorcyclist traveling east.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of kin.
