A motorcyclist was seriously injured during a violent traffic collision near the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway Tuesday night, police said. No further details were shared on the status of the motorcycle rider.

Officers shut down traffic on Cherry Avenue between 17th Street and PCH for several hours while they investigated at the scene of the crash, according to Long Beach Police Lieutenant Robert Titus.

Titus said officers do not believe at this time that driving under the influence or distracted driving caused the crash. Video of the crash shared on social media shows a motorcyclist driving head on into a white car waiting at a red light.

Titus said officers had not yet seen the footage shared on social media.
