The Long Beach Public Library this month is reminding people to take advantage of its PressReader service that lets users read thousands of newspapers and magazines free of charge.
Available to all LB public library cardholders, the digital resource provides free and unlimited access to more than 7,000 newspapers and magazines from around the world and in 60 languages.
“Providing access to incredible resources like this is yet another way our libraries are working to serve our diverse community,” said Mayor Robert Garcia.
PressReader allows library patrons to browse a variety of magazines and newspapers, including The Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, La Razón and L’Équipe, according to library officials. In addition, any articles downloaded never expire, allowing readers to keep them as long as they wish.
The app also has a listening mode and can translate articles into 18 different languages.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this diverse and accessible resource to our patrons and greatly appreciate the support from the Southern California Library Cooperative to make it available,” said Library Director Glenda Williams.
PressReader can be found in the LBPL’s Digital Library at longbeach.gov/library/digital-library and the app is available for download on the PressReader website.
The Long Beach Public Library offers a wide variety of books, media, databases, Internet access, Family Learning Centers, maker spaces, as well as events ranging from storytimes to educational and cultural programs.
