1:01pm | Chase Bank is preparing to open a new branch in downtown Long Beach.<
The new bank branch, which is still under construction, will be located on the corner of Long Beach Boulevard and 10th Street at the former site of a Blockbuster video rental store.
Councilman Robert Garcia, in whose First District the bank is located, said in an e-mail Wednesday that the new bank will serve as an anchor for the northern area of downtown Long Beach.
The branch will offer full branch services and ATMs.
“This is a huge win for a community that is underserved and will assist us in developing Long Beach Boulevard into a thriving retail and commercial corridor,” Garcia said in the e-mail. “We are committed to replacing predatory lenders and check cashing stores with traditional banking establishments.”
The councilman added that over the next several months, new ATMs will be available in West and North Long Beach, as well.
