COVID-19 metrics continue to improve in Long Beach and Los Angeles, with the city reporting a case rate that is half what it was two weeks ago.
The numbers are still comparatively high, but there are now close to 205 cases in Long Beach per 100,000 residents, the city reported Tuesday. On Jan. 18, that number was 427.
The city reported an additional 1,415 new cases, which takes into account cases reported over the weekend. The city has reported four more deaths, for a total of 1,141 since the pandemic began.
Long Beach’s numbers are still higher than the county as a whole. The share of people testing positive for the virus in Los Angeles County is now 8.9%, while in Long Beach it is 22.5%.
LA County reported another 8,786 new cases and 37 deaths on Tuesday.
“The declines we are seeing are a hopeful sign that many of the disruptions experienced during this surge will begin to dissipate,” county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement.
“While we have turned the corner, we will need to remain cautious in order to maintain this downward trend.”
