The Public Works Department displayed a newly-opened Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) station today that will serve City vehicles with clean fuel.  Mayor Bob Foster and Councilmember Tonia Reyes Uranga, also a member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) spoke and addressed the improvements that will be made to air quality thanks to the use of clean-burning LNG.

Use of the fuel for City vehicles is expected to save Long Beach air from 2.8 metric tons of particulate matter per year.  The station has provided the cleaner fuel to vehicles from other cities during times of shortages in the past, and the door is being left open for future partnerships.

“This is a great way t kick off Earth Day,” said Mayor Bob Foster.  “It’s a priority for us to be able to live comfortably in our environment in the future.”

“It is possible to do heavy duty work without heavy duty emissions,” said Reyes Uranga.
