Long Beach’s Bixby Station Post Office will officially open its doors Monday—less than a mile away from its original location, which closed early last year, when the station lost its lease and was forced to vacate.

The new post office, located at 4470 Atlantic Avenue, will open Monday, December 12 at 9:00AM, just in time for local residents’ holiday mailing and shipping needs, United States Postal Service (USPS) officials said.

The post office will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 5:00PM and Saturday from 9:00AM to 3:00PM.

The Bixby Station lost its lease at its former location, at 4580 Atlantic Avenue, on February 2015, officials said. The closure forced USPS officials to find a new location, holding public meetings to allow local officials and the public to express their views prior to a final decision, according to a statement from the USPS.

Post Office Box service temporarily stationed at the North Long Beach Station will move to Bixby Station’s new address on Monday as well. Post Office Box numbers were not changed for the station’s customers during any of these moves.

“USPS does not receive tax dollars for its operations or facilities, but covers costs solely through the revenue received from the sale of its products and services,” officials said.
