7:01pm | The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association announced Tuesday that the installation of the Long Beach business corridor’s new “feature” light pole banners is complete.
BKBIA Executive Director Blair Cohn said in an e-mail Tuesday that despite the current uncertainty regarding the future of the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency, the BKBIA continues to carry out its RDA-funded programs for the fiscal year, including this new street banner project.
The new banners adorn every third light pole along Atlantic Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood.
“We have Bixby Knolls banners on every light pole from Wardlow to 46th Street to designate the business district,” Cohn said in the e-mail.
The new banners are referred to as “feature” banners because each depicts a different feature of the neighborhood and business district. That includes shopping, dining, professional services, Strollers Supper CLub, Literary Society, bike friendly, live theater and First Fridays.
“Not only do you know you are in Bixby Knolls, but you also get to see what Bixby Knolls has to offer,” Cohn said.
“We even created banners for the Long Beach Shakespeare Company, Historical Society and Rancho Los Cerritos, he continued. “It’s important to showcase all the assets of the community, both business- and neighborhood-related.”
Cohn said that the BKBIA is determined to keep the momentum going and will be making as many improvements to the district as possible. The next project the association will tackle is the installation of BKBIA logo decals at each intersection.
“Bixby Knolls is a textbook example of redevelopment dollars at work,” Cohn said. ” We can walk the corridors and literally point to all the changes made in the last few years with the assistance of the RDA.”
