6:00am | The best thing about Long Beach are the many extraordinary people that help shape its future. At the end of every year, the Long Beach Post takes time to recognize a Person of the Year – someone who has left an indelible mark on our community and at the same time is helping to shape the future of our great city.
We need your help. Leave a comment below this article to nominate your 2010 Long Beach Person of the Year.
As the year comes to a close, we invite you to reflect on the past year and all of the changes that have shaped Long Beach. Who made a name for themselves this year? Who made you take notice of their actions? Any and all citizens of Long Beach are eligible to be nominated. We’re looking for someone that you think should be recognized for their contributions to Long Beach.
This effort marks the fourth consecutive year that we will name a Person of the Year. Community activist Justin Rudd received the distinction in 2007 for his tireless volunteer work, and Olympic champion volleyball player Misty May won in 2008 for her role as an unofficial world-wide advocate for the city. We issued a sobering, posthumous Person of the Year award in 2009 as Wilson High School honor roll student Melody Ross was remembered.
Who do you think deserves to be recognized in 2010?
Each nomination from readers in the comment section below will be taken into consideration when the Long Beach Post staff makes the final decision. The 2010 Long Beach Person of the Year will be announced on December 15, 2010.
