Residents are invited to learn how they can help keep their parks safe and enjoyable by attending a “Park Watch” program kick-off event hosted by Fourth District City Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine at Rotary Centennial Park, Pacific Coast Highway and Junipero, on Saturday, May 31, from 9 to 10:30 am.
The Long Beach Park Watch program involves the community in preventing crime and vandalism in City parks. Residents can act as extra eyes and ears for Park Rangers and Police Officers in reporting activities that can diminish a safe, clean and enjoyable park environment. By learning how to communicate issues to Rangers, Police, and Parks, Recreation and Marine staff, residents can prevent misuse of park facilities, reduce equipment repair costs, and increase park use and sense of park ownership by the community.
“I look forward to working with Long Beach Rotary, the West East Side Community Association (WESCA) and the Sherman/Stanton Neighborhood group, among others on Park Watch to make a positive difference in our parks,” said Councilmember O’Donnell. “The Fourth District is proud to kick-off the Park Watch program at Rotary Centennial Park, a wonderful neighborhood park that was made possible through a partnership with the Long Beach Rotary.”
The event will include remarks from Councilmember O’Donnell, Long Beach Rotary, and Parks, Recreation and Marine staff. Residents will be able to network, enjoy light refreshments and learn how they can become involved.
