First of all, be careful out there on the slick roads. I’ve made countless jokes about Californians being spooked by a little rain, but it was coming down pretty hard this morning so drive gingerly.
A man was hospitalized last night after police attempted to pull him over for wreckless driving and at least one other violation. The suspect refused to stop until his car – later found to be stolen – hit a parked vehicle on 10th & Coronado. He fled on foot and took cover behind another car in a Redondo Ave. business parking lot, and the officer in pursuit shot the suspect when it appeared he was reaching for his waistband. An independent investigation will be conducted by the LA County District Attorney’s Office as with all officer-involved shootings, and police are withholding the suspect’s name until his identity can be verified.
Earlier in the weekend, two motorcyclists were injured in a hit and run collision near 4th & Cherry around midnight Sunday, when 28-year-old Brenda Rossal, an unlicensed driver ran in a Chevy Tahoe, ran a red light and struck the two men. David Golz, 29, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. James Culver, 31, is in critical condition with head trauma. Witnesses followed the burgundy Chevy Tahoe to 3rd & Pine and called police. Rossal was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, running a red light and beig an unlicensed driver.
Seriously, be safe out there.
