Police said they’re still trying to determine why a man began firing a gun in Bixby Park Wednesday evening, but he’s been taken into custody.

The situation began around 5:56 p.m. when officers were called to the park about a man with a gun, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 34-year-old homeless man had fired shots in the park but hadn’t hit anyone, police said. They also found two firearms, according to the LBPD.

Police said they arrested the man on suspicion of illegally possessing ammunition and a firearm. He was also booked on suspicion of disorderly conduct and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.

His bail was set at $35,000, according to the department.
