Long Beach officials on Saturday reported that three more people have died from coronavirus, bringing the city’s total to 43.
Of all the fatalities in the city, 33 are related to long-term care facilities. All of the patients had underlying health conditions. Most of those who died were elderly, although one patient was in their 40s, three were in their 50s and seven were in their 60s, according to officials.
The number of cases has jumped by 33, bringing the total to 931 cases in the city. Not all those cases are active: At least 595 people have reported recovering.
Countywide, officials reported 1,011 new cases, bringing the total to 31,197 cases, and 44 new fatalities, bringing the total to 1,512.
Officials have noted that cases will continue to rise as their testing capacity increases.
Mayor Robert Garcia warned residents on Friday to maintain social distancing and mask protocols as the city begins the process of reopening.
Officials also reminded residents that parks are open for active uses only—no gatherings or picnicking is allowed, but people can run, walk or bike in parks.
