Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and Police Chief Anthony Batts
Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and Police Chief Anthony Batts

Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and Police Chief Anthony BattsA week ago, Matier & Ross of the San Francisco Chronicle posted a story revealing that “old-fashioned politics were very much at play in bringing Long Beach Police Chief Anthony Batts to Oakland.”

Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums was widely credited for recruiting Batts to Oakland. As Matier & Ross point out, Don Perata, the former state Senate leader and current Dellums opponent for Mayor was actually the one who helped Dellums seal the deal on Batts.  Batts contacted Perata after being “encouraged” to call Perata by a “former Long Beach city councilmember.”

Who is the Long Beach City Councilmember and friend of former Senator Perata that played a role in setting Batts up in Oakland? No one is talking…yet.
