A crash between a big rig and sedan on a Long Beach freeway caused traffic to back up for miles Thursday morning.
The traffic collision happened on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway at Pacific Coast Highway at about 8:45AM, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Traffic Incident Information Page.
Long Beach firefighters and Metro personnel responded to the crash, which blocked the No. 4 lane, according to CHP reports. No injuries were reported.
Earlier, authorities responded to a report of a big rig that overturned on the West Anaheim Street off-ramp from the southbound 710 freeway that sent the 32-year-old driver to a local hospital.
Long Beach police responded to the incident, which happened just after 6:00AM, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.
The driver, a Los Angeles man, was transported via a basic life support ambulance with minor injuries, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Jake Heflin said.
According to a preliminary investigation, the driver may have been traveling too fast to make the turn safely, Pratt said.
The incident also resulted in the spill of liquid debris all over the ground, according to the CHP incident page. The off-ramp was closed until about 10AM, officials said.
This story was updated at 11:52AM with more information about the overturned big rig, including the exact location, the injuries of the driver and the possible cause of the incident.
