A possibly gang-related shooting Wednesday night in the Willmore/Drake Park Historic District has left one victim dead and another injured, shaking one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. The shooting occured around 10PM when police say 23 year-old Nelson Suarez and two others were shot at multiple times while standing in front of a residence in the area of 8th St. and Maine Ave.

Arriving officers found Suarez shot in the torso and a second victim–who is only being identified as a male adult–also injured. Both victims were transported to the hospital where Suarez was pronounced dead. The second victim’s injuries appear to be non life-threatening and the third person involved was not injured.

There is no motive and no suspect information available at this time. It is also unclear if the double shooting near Drake Park is related to a shooting that occurred just a half-hour before near 7th St. and Lime Ave. in which one person was injured.
