8:50pm | The Press-Telegram is reporting that Long Beach Superior Court Judge Ross Klein has ruled in favor of the city in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Melody Ross, a 16-year-old Long Beach girl who was gunned down at the end of her school’s 2009 homecoming game.
In their action against the city, the plaintiffs claimed inadequate street lighting at the scene of the incident constituted a dangerous condition on public property.
“It was the correct ruling,” said Monte Machit, Principal Deputy City Attorney for the city of Long Beach. “Everybody has tremendous sympathy for the Ross family … but the city just isn’t responsible.”
