Rescue crews are searching for a passenger who fell overboard from the Carnival Miracle cruise ship off the coast of Ensenada today, Carnival Cruises said in a statement.

The ship, which can carry 2,100 passengers, left Long Beach on Thursday.

Carnival hasn’t identified the passenger, though a company spokesperson did say she was a woman.

“We advised Carnival Miracle guests this morning of an overboard incident involving one of our guests from the balcony of her stateroom,” the company said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the guest and her family, and our Care Team is providing support.”

The U.S. Coast Guard posted on Twitter shortly before noon today that it had begun searching for the passenger.

After assisting the U.S Coast Guard with a search, the cruise ship has been released and is proceeding to Ensenada, said a Carnival spokesperson.

The ship will return to Long Beach as scheduled on Sunday morning, according to Carnival.

After a 17-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carnival Cruises resumed sailing out of Long Beach in August.
