A man died early Thursday morning after being hit by a car along Pacific Coast Highway near Long Beach City College, authorities said.
Police said the crash happened east of Gaviota Avenue around 12:30 a.m.
The man, whose identity was not immediately revealed, was running southbound across PCH when the driver of a 2007 Toyota Camry going eastbound hit him, according to the the Long Beach Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found the man in the roadway and began treating him, police said. He was then rushed to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
In a statement Thursday afternoon, authorities said the man appeared to be walking outside of the marked crosswalk when he was struck.
The driver of the Toyota, who was identified as a 19-year-old resident of Signal Hill, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said, adding that speed, distracted driving and impairment do not appear to be a factor in this case.
