A pedestrian who was struck by a car that was backing out of a Long Beach driveway has died, authorities said.

Long Beach resident David Marroquin, 69, was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Wednesday, December 16 at 10:39AM, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), after suffering major head trauma from the incident five days prior.

Authorities said that on Friday, December 11, a 21-year-old Long Beach resident was slowly backing his 2010 Ford Fusion out of a driveway when he collided with Marroquin, who was walking on the sidewalk.

“The collision knocked the pedestrian to the ground, causing him to strike his head on the cement driveway,” the LBPD stated.

The driver stopped the vehicle and immediately called 9-1-1 and remained with Marroquin until Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel arrived. Police responded to the scene, on the 1300 block of Junipero Avenue, at 10:58AM.

Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.

LBPD officials were notified of his death on Monday, December 21.
