UPDATE | A man fatally struck by a vehicle when he crossed a North Long Beach street on Tuesday was identified today as a 39-year-old Long Beach.
Fernando Murguia died at a hospital after he was struck at about 12:10AM August 15 on Cherry Avenue, just north of 65th Street.
Authorities said he was crossing outside the crosswalk when the incident happened.
The driver, a 39-year-old Lakewood resident, was not under the influence and is not facing charges related to the fatality, officials previously said. However, he did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance and charges for those violations are pending.

8/15/17 at 10:55AM | A man was fatally struck when he attempted to cross a North Long Beach street just after midnight on Tuesday, according to authorities.
A motorist was driving north on Cherry Avenue at 65th Street when a pedestrian attempted to cross west on Cherry Avenue and was struck, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Sgt. Brad Johnson said.
Police were dispatched to the incident at 12:09AM, he said. When officers arrived, they found bystanders administering CPR on the pedestrian who was laying on the roadway on Cherry Avenue, according to a release from the LBPD. Officers also discovered a green 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier in the roadway at the scene.
An investigation found that the victim was crossing outside a crosswalk just north of 65th Street, Johnson added.
Officials said the driver, an adult male, remained at the scene and that impairment did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The victim was transported by Long Beach paramedics with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital where he later died.
Police said no identification was found on the victim. The coroner’s office will attempt to identify him and notify next of kin.
